God’s love and mercy are freely given to all who seek it.

Ezek 34:1-11; Psalm: 22; Mt 20:1-16

The parable of the laborers in the vineyard found in today’s Gospel is a powerful illustration of God’s grace and generosity. In this parable, a landowner hires laborers throughout the day to work in his vineyard. At the end of the day, he pays each worker the same wage, regardless of how long they worked. This story challenges our understanding of fairness and justice and reminds us of the boundless mercy of God.

St. Therese of Lisieux, also known as the “Little Flower,” offers a reflection on the parable of the laborers in the vineyard. She reminds us that God’s love is not earned or deserved, but freely given to all who seek it. St. Therese’s “Little Way” teaches us to approach God with childlike trust and simplicity, knowing that His love is limitless and unconditional.

Reflecting on the parable of the laborers in the vineyard can deepen our understanding of God’s boundless love and mercy. It challenges us to reexamine our own attitudes towards others, and to strive to imitate the generosity and compassion of the landowner. As we meditate on this parable, may we be inspired to approach God with humility and gratitude, knowing that His love is freely given to all who seek it.
