Faith in God’s power
Prov 30:5-9; Psalm: 118; Lk 9:1-6
In Luke 9:1-6, Jesus sends out his twelve disciples to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. This passage is a powerful reminder of the importance of spreading the message of God’s love and mercy to others. It also serves as a call to action for all believers to be willing to go out into the world and share the good news with all those they meet.
One of the key lessons to be drawn from this passage is the importance of having faith in God’s power to work through us. Jesus sends out his disciples with the authority to heal and cast out demons, demonstrating that it is not by their own strength or skill that they will be successful, but by the power of God working through them. This is a powerful reminder that we should not rely on our own abilities or talents, but rather trust in God to equip us and empower us to do his work.
Another important lesson from this passage is the need to be willing to step out of our comfort zones in order to spread the message of the kingdom. Jesus instructs his disciples to take nothing with them on their journey, relying instead on the hospitality of others. This requires a great deal of faith and trust in both God’s provision and in the kindness of strangers. It is a reminder that we should be willing to be uncomfortable and inconvenienced in order to fulfill God’s purposes for our lives.
The passage also highlights the importance of humility in our service to God. Jesus tells his disciples to shake the dust off their feet if a town refuses to hear their message, signaling that they should not take rejection personally or view themselves as superior to those who do not accept their message. This is a powerful reminder that we should approach our mission with a spirit of humility and a recognition of our own shortcomings, rather than with a sense of entitlement or superiority.
Overall, Luke 9:1-6 is a powerful reminder of the call for all believers to go out into the world and share the message of God’s love and mercy with others. It challenges us to have faith in God’s power, to step out of our comfort zones, and to approach our mission with humility and grace. As we reflect on this passage, may we be inspired to follow in the footsteps of the disciples, boldly proclaiming the kingdom of God to all those we meet.
