Dwelling in Divine Glory and the Final Sorting

Exod 40:16-21.34-38; Psalm: 83; Mt 13:47-53

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, today, we will reflect on the dwelling in divine glory and the final sorting of our lives. We look to the Tabernacle, that sacred dwelling place where God pitched His tent among His people.

In Exodus, we see Moses assembling the Tabernacle exactly as the Lord commanded. This obedience was not mere ritual; it was an invitation for God’s presence to dwell among us. When we choose to obey God’s call, we open our hearts to His glory, the Shekinah, filling our lives with light and purpose. Imagine the scene in the wilderness. The cloud by day and the fire by night guided the Israelites through uncertainty and fear. This divine presence was a sign of God’s unwavering companionship. Just as He led them then, He leads us today. In moments of doubt, when God feels distant, remember that seeking His dwelling brings us comfort and assurance. Trust in the final sorting, for God knows the treasures hidden in our hearts, and He desires to bring them forth.

As we reflect on the final judgment, we remember the parable of the net in today’s Gospel, where the kingdom of heaven is likened to a net cast into the sea, gathering fish of every kind. At the end of the age, the angels will come and separate the good from the bad. This imagery invites us to examine our lives. Are we treasures new and old? In a culture laden with moral confusion, we must seek wisdom that transcends the noise around us. We must be diligent in our pursuit of truth and fidelity to God’s commandments. In this wilderness of life, marked by loss, anxiety, and displacement, we are called to be a cloud and fire for one another. We are here to guide the lost, to offer support and encouragement to those struggling in darkness. It is our duty to become living Tabernacles, allowing God’s glory to shine through us. This means making our hearts a sacred space where His love can dwell.

Our lives can reflect His light, drawing others closer to Him. How can we do this? First, we must pray for discernment. In the chaos of daily life, we need to ask God to open our eyes to see His presence in the ordinary and extraordinary moments. We must be attentive to His whispers, guiding us to the paths of mercy and grace. Secondly, we are called to cast the net of mercy. This means evangelizing and serving those around us with love and compassion. When we extend kindness, we are demonstrating the very heart of God. As we journey together, let us remember that we are not alone. God’s glory is with us, guiding us through every storm, illuminating our paths with His love.

In our obedience, we can dwell in His divine presence, and in that dwelling, we will find the strength to navigate the wilderness of life. Let us embrace our calling to be instruments of His peace, guiding others towards the ultimate treasure, which is the love of Christ. May we be filled with His glory and shine brightly in this world. Amen.

St. Augustine on Matthew 13:

“The net holds both just and unjust. Let it humble us; only God knows the heart. Pray for all in the net!”

St. John Vianney:

“The Eucharist is the new Tabernacle! Here, God’s glory burns not in cloud, but in Flesh.”

Pope Francis on divine guidance:

“Like Israel’s cloud, the Holy Spirit guides us—not with maps, but with trust. Surrender the itinerary!” (Homily, 2018).
