Faith, obedience and resistance to temptation

Deut 26:4-10, Psalm: 90; Rom 10:8-13; Lk 4:1-13

In today’s readings, we are presented with the message of faith, obedience, and the importance of resisting temptation. These readings offer us valuable insights into the nature of our relationship with God and how we can grow in our faith.

Today’s first reading reminds us of the importance of remembering and acknowledging God’s role in our lives. The passage instructs the Israelites to bring the first fruits of their harvest to the Lord as a sign of gratitude and recognition of His provision. This practice serves as a reminder of the faithfulness of God and the need for us to constantly acknowledge His presence in our lives. It is a call to be grateful for all that we have and to offer our thanks to God for His blessings.

In today’s second reading, we are reminded of the simplicity of the message of salvation. The passage highlights the importance of faith in Jesus Christ as the foundation of our relationship with God. It emphasizes that believing in our hearts and confessing with our mouths that Jesus is Lord is the key to salvation. If we have genuine faith in our hearts, we will practice according to God’s Will and His commandments in our daily lives.

In today’s gospel, we heard that Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness. This passage serves as a powerful example of the importance of resisting temptation and remaining steadfast in our faith. Jesus was tempted just as we are, but He remained faithful to God and did not succumb to the devil’s temptations. This serves as a model for us to follow, reminding us that we too can resist temptation and overcome trials through our faith in God.

Overall, these readings offer us valuable insights into the nature of our relationship with God and how we can grow in our faith. They remind us of the importance of gratitude, faith, and obedience in our walk with God. They serve as a call to action, urging us to constantly acknowledge God’s presence in our lives, believe in the message of salvation, and resist temptation in order to remain faithful to God. As we reflect on these readings, let us strive to deepen our relationship with God and embrace the message of faith, obedience, and resistance to temptation in our lives.
