Ever ready for the Lord
1Cor 1:17-25; Psalm: 32; Mt 25:1-13
In the Gospel of Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus tells the parable of the ten virgins, five of whom are wise and prepared for the bridegroom’s arrival, while the other five are foolish and unprepared. This parable teaches us the importance of being ready and vigilant for the coming of Christ. St. Augustine once said, “God has promised forgiveness to your repentance, but He has not promised tomorrow to your procrastination.” This quote reminds us that we must always be prepared for the unexpected return of Christ.
St. Teresa of Avila said, “We can only learn to know ourselves and do what we can— namely, surrender our will and fulfill God’s will in us.” This quote encourages us to surrender our own will and desires in order to be fully ready to receive God’s will in our lives. By being obedient and ready to fulfill His plan for us, we can ensure that we are always prepared for the coming of Christ.
The parable of the ten virgins reminds us of the importance of readiness and vigilance in our spiritual lives. We must always be prepared, both in our actions and in our hearts, for the unexpected return of Christ. As the saints have shown us, true greatness lies in our willingness to surrender our will to God and be ready to receive His will in our lives.
