Myanmar Archbishop: “Read the Bible for your spiritual nourishment”

Archbishop Basilio Athai urged the faithful to read the bible for spiritual nourishment at the event of Bible Sunday held in Sacred Heart Parish, Hmawbi in Yangon Archdiocese, Myanmar, on September 28.

“Read the Bible for your spiritual nourishment,” the chair bishop of the Episcopal Commission for Bible, Archbishop Basilio, encouraged the faithful.

The archbishop invited the participants to read the Bible in different ways, that is, to read with our ears., to read with our eyes, to read with our thoughts, and to read with our hearts (with feelings).

“The Bible strengthens faith. The Bible heals disappointment,” insisted Archbishop Basilio of Taunggyi Archdiocese.

The auxiliary bishop of Yangon Archdiocese, Bishop Francis Than Tun, emphasized, “God speaks to us through His Word.”

Bishop Maurice Nyunt Wai of Mawlamyine Diocese, a member of the core team of the National Biblical Pastoral Ministry (BPM), shared about the Tree of Life.

“There are 2 trees in Genesis. Man is to choose any of the two trees freely. People speak less about the tree of life,” said Bishop Maurice.

The National Director of the National Biblical Pastoral Ministry, Fr. George Shwe Htun, Head of the Diocesan Bible Apostolate, Fr. Peter Tun Tun, and the team organized the event.

The event is the 14th Bible Sunday of the Yangon Archdiocese and the memorial of the Scripture Scholar, St. Jerome, who translated the Bible from Greek to Latin.

The program of the day began with the enthronement of the Bible.

Priests, Religious, Catechists, Seminarians, coordinators from other dioceses, and the faithful joined this event.

The core team members who served in the Biblical Pastoral Ministry for over 10 years were honored.

The event ended with the Holy Mass at 11:30 am on September 28.
