Myanmar Bishop: “Give the inheritance of faith to your children”

Myanmar Bishop urged the faithful to hand the faith as the inheritance at the silver jubilee of St. John’s Church at Peinnechaung village, Chanthargone Parish, Pathein Diocese, Myanmar, on March 11.

“Dear parents, please give the inheritance of faith to your children. Hand the faith to your children,” Bishop Henry Eikhlein of Pathein Diocese encouraged.

The bishop said that there are about 1.4 billion catholic population, and also over 5000 bishops all over the world. In Myanmar, there are not yet one million Catholics.

“Please pray for vocation, not only to priestly vocation but also religious, catechists, and parish elders. They are the life of the Church,” Bishop Henry appealed.

His Eminence Charles Cardinal Bo, then bishop of Pathein, blessed St. John’s Church on April 1, 2000. U Maung Maung Khin and Daw Anna Khu were the donors of  St. John’s Church.

Peinnechaung village is the native place of Bishop Henry Eikhlein.

On that same day, the bishop celebrated his 36th anniversary of priestly ordination.

Bishop Henry Eikhlein was ordained as a priest together with Bishop Maurice Nyunt Wai of Mawlamyine Diocese and Rev. Fr. Emmanuel from Pathein Diocese, on March 11, 1989, at the Sacred Heart Church in Myaungmya town, Ayeyarwaddy Division, from the hands of the late Archbishop John Gabriel.

At that time, there are about 30 priests in the Diocese of Pathein, and now, 111 priests.
