Myanmar Cardinal: “We were to become the pilgrims of hope.”

Myanmar Cardinal encouraged to be the pilgrims of hope at the entering the threshold of Jubilee Door in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Yangon, Myanmar, on January 4, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

His Eminence Charles Cardinal Bo said, “As we passed through the Jubilee door; we were to become the pilgrims of hope.”

Cardinal Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, entered through the Jubilee Door, followed by the Archbishops, Bishops, Msgr. Andrea Ferrante, Chargé de affaires and the faithful after the Jubilee prayer.

The cardinal prayed, “All people may receive the hope of Gospel, hope of love, and hope of forgiveness.”

During the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the cardinal conveyed the message of Pope Francis’ message that we are to reconcile with God, with one another, and even with our enemies.

“Entering through that door calls for the sacrifice involved in taking a step toward, leaving behind our disputes and divisions, and surrendering ourselves to the outstretched arms of the child who is the Prince of Peace. Pope Francis invites every individual and all people and nations to find the courage needed to walk through the door to become pilgrims of hope, to silence the sounds of arms and override divisions,” said Cardinal Charles Bo.

As the Blessed Sacrament was exposed on the altar of St. Mary’s Cathedral, all the participants prayed for the Vesper (Evening Prayer) before the Blessed Sacrament.

Before the end of the adoration, intercession was led by His Excellency Bishop Noel Saw Naw Aye, Auxiliary Bishop of Yangon Archdiocese.

The event was concluded by blessing with the Blessed Sacrament by His Grace Archbishop Marco Tin Win, Archbishop of Mandalay.

The opening of the Jubilee Door celebration was held on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 8 AM in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Yangon.

On the day of the opening of the Jubilee Door, Cardinal Bo said, “In the person of Jesus, the door of salvation open for all. Jesus is the door that the Father of Mercy has opened in the midst of our history so that all of us can return to Him.”

The Archbishop of Yangon invited, “Come, Jesus is the door of peace. We mostly dare not enter this door. We are not brave enough to enter this door.”

He encouraged all to step into this door of peace by leaving our disputes and diversities at our backs to embrace Jesus, who is Peace.

The cardinal recalled Pope Francis’ message of “World Day of Peace” for 2025, to reduce substantially, if not cancel outright, the international debt, to respect the dignity of human life and cancellation of the death penalty, and to establish a global Fund to eradicate hunger and promote sustainable development and combating climate change.

Cardinal Bo urged, “We believers should spread the seed of hope in the places of despair, lives broken, breach of promises, and exhausted people. We have to bring peace to the victims of war and violence.”
