Myanmar Danai Parish Sees Wave of Conversions and Sacrament of Matrimony

St. Patrick’s Church in Danai Parish, Myitkyina Diocese, recently hosted a large-scale celebration of adult baptisms and marriages, welcoming dozens of new members from other Christian denominations, animist traditions, and others.

The ceremonies, held from September 28-30, 2025, highlighted the ongoing evangelization efforts in the region. A total of 27 individuals were received into the Catholic Church through the sacrament of adult baptism.

According to parish reports, the new converts came from diverse religious backgrounds, including seven from the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC), six former animists (Nat Jaw), two from the Naga Baptist Church (NBC), one from the Anglican Church, and several others. The sacrament was administered by the Parish Priest, Reverend Father Peter Labu Naw San.

The event was organized with the participation of responsible preachers and catechists from across the parish, working under the leadership of Fr. Peter.

In a follow-up ceremony on September 30, the parish also celebrated the sacrament of marriage for 69 couples, solemnizing their unions within the Catholic faith. The dual ceremonies mark a period of significant growth and consolidation for the Danai Catholic community.

While commenting on the events, parish sources noted that it is common for Danai Parish to receive converts from other churches and animist beliefs each year, though this year’s numbers were particularly notable.

The mass baptism and wedding ceremonies represent a key milestone in the diocese’s pastoral work, demonstrating a successful integration of individuals from different faith traditions into the Catholic community. The events underscore the active role of local clergy and lay catechists in fostering religious formation and sacramental life in the region.
