Pope Francis appoints a new bishop for Myanmar
Pope Francis appointed Most. Rev. Msgr. John Mung Ngawn La Sam, Missionary of Faith (MF), to be the bishop of Myitkyina Diocese in Myanmar on October 29.
52 years old, Msgr. John is the parish priest of St. Paul’s Church, Shadau, Myitkyina.
He was born in Moe Gok, in the diocese of Lashio on April 27, 1973.
His religious profession was in the Religious Congregation of Missionary Fathers of Faith on September 8, 2014, and ordained priest on January 16, 2016.
He completed his spiritual formation at the house of the Missionaries of Faith in Rome.
From 2016 to 2017, he served as the assistant parish priest of St. Columban’s Cathedral in Myitkyina, Myanmar.
His Eminence Charles Cardinal Bo, Archbishop of Yangon, has served as the Apostolic Administrator of Myitkyina Diocese since November 2020.
