Pope Francis appoints a new bishop for Myanmar
Pope Francis appointed Most. Rev. Msgr. Peter Tin Wai will be the bishop of the Pyay Diocese in Myanmar on December 3, the Feast Day of St. Francis Xavier.
58 years old, Msgr. Peter is the parish priest of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Kyaukpyu, Rakhine State, and the Diocesan Director of the Commission of Justice and Peace in Pyay Diocese.
The bishop-elect was born in Minbya Parish, in the diocese of Pyay on July 2, 1967.
He was ordained priest on March 21, 1999.
Msgr. Peter holds a Licentiate in Moral Theology from the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy in Rome.
From 2009 to 2012, he served as the professor of Morals at the Institute of Theology, St. Joseph’s Catholic Major Seminary in Yangon, Myanmar.
From 2012 to 2015, the bishop-elect served as the rector of the St. Paul’s Minor Seminary in Pyay.
He served as the Diocesan Chancellor of Pyay Diocese from 2015-2017.
