God’s faithfulness

Ezek 37:21-28; Psalm: Jer 31; Jn 11:45-56

In the Bible, there are countless examples of God’s faithfulness towards his people. Two such examples can be found in today’s first reading and the Gospel. These passages illustrate God’s unwavering commitment to his promises and his ability to bring about miracles in the lives of his followers.

Today’s first reading tells the story of God’s promise to restore the nation of Israel after a time of exile and hardship. The prophet Ezekiel is given a vision of dry bones coming to life and becoming a mighty army. This vision represents God’s faithfulness to his people, even in times of despair and hopelessness. God promises to bring his people back to their land, to reunite them under one king, and to make a covenant of peace with them forever. This passage serves as a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness and his ability to bring about restoration and renewal in the lives of his people.

Similarly, in today’s Gospel, we see God’s faithfulness displayed through the miracle of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus was a close friend of Jesus who had been dead for four days when Jesus arrived at his tomb. Despite the doubts and disbelief of those around him, Jesus called out to Lazarus and commanded him to come forth. Miraculously, Lazarus emerged from the tomb, alive and well. This miraculous event serves as a testament to God’s power and faithfulness, showing that nothing is impossible for him.

Both of these passages highlight God’s faithfulness and his ability to bring about miracles in the lives of his people. In today’s first reading, we see God fulfilling his promises to restore and renew his people, even in the midst of exile and despair. In today’s Gospel, we witness the power of God to bring the dead back to life, demonstrating his ability to overcome even the greatest obstacles. These stories remind us that God is always faithful to his promises and that nothing is too difficult for him to accomplish.

As believers, we can take comfort in the faithfulness of God, knowing that he is always true to his word and that he has the power to bring about incredible transformations in our lives. Just as God brought restoration to the nation of Israel and raised Lazarus from the dead, he can also bring about renewal and new life in our own hearts and circumstances. These passages serve as a powerful reminder that we serve a God who is always faithful and who is able to work miracles in our lives.
