Third Sunday of Lent (C), March 23, 2025

Be faithful and true in our relationship with God

Exod 3:1-8a.13-15; Psalm: 102; 1Cor 10:1-6.10-12; Lk 13:1-9

This Sunday’s readings provide important lessons for reflection on our faith and relationship with God. In Exodus, we see Moses encountering God in the burning bush, and being called to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. This passage reminds us that God often calls us to step out of our comfort zones and trust in Him, even when we may feel inadequate or unworthy.

In 1 Corinthians, we learn from the example of the Israelites in the desert, who despite witnessing God’s miracles and provision, still fell into sin and idolatry. This serves as a warning to us that no matter how strong our faith may be, we are always susceptible to temptation and must remain vigilant in guarding our hearts and minds against spiritual complacency.

In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus warns his disciples to repent or face the consequences of judgment. This passage reminds us that we are all sinners in need of God’s mercy and forgiveness and that it is never too late to turn back to Him and seek reconciliation.

Reflecting on these readings, we are reminded of the importance of humility, faithfulness, and repentance in our walk with God. Like Moses, we are called to trust God’s plan for our lives, even when it may seem daunting or challenging. Like the Israelites, we must be mindful of the temptations that can lead us astray, and be vigilant in our faith. And like the fig tree in the Gospel, we are called to bear good fruit in our lives, by living out our faith in love, service, and obedience to God’s will.

As we meditate on these readings, let us take time to examine our own hearts and actions, and ask God for the grace to be faithful and true in our relationship with Him. Let us repent of our sins and shortcomings, and ask for His forgiveness and mercy. And let us renew our commitment to following Him wholeheartedly, trusting in His love and guidance to lead us on the path of righteousness.

In conclusion, the readings from Exodus, 1 Corinthians, and Luke this week offer us important lessons for reflection and growth in our faith. May we be inspired by the examples of Moses, the Israelites, and the fig tree, to be faithful, repentant, and fruitful in our walk with God. May we always remember that He is faithful and merciful, ready to forgive and restore us when we turn to Him in humility and trust.
