Deep relationship with Jesus
Eccl 1:2-11; Psalm: 89; Lk 9:7-9
In the Gospel of Luke 9:7-9, we see King Herod’s perplexity at the news of Jesus’ miraculous deeds. It is interesting to note how Herod’s reaction mirrors that of many people today when confronted with the teachings and miracles of Jesus. This passage serves as a reminder for us to reflect on our own response to the message of Jesus and how we can deepen our faith in Him.
Firstly, Herod’s reaction to Jesus highlights the different ways in which people respond to His teachings and miracles. Herod was perplexed and unsure of who Jesus really was. This mirrors the skepticism and doubt that many people have when faced with the claims of Jesus. It reminds us that faith is a personal choice and each individual must come to their own understanding of who Jesus is and what He means to them.
Secondly, Herod’s perplexity also serves as a warning against the dangers of unbelief and rejection of Jesus. Despite hearing about His miraculous deeds, Herod did not seek to know more about Jesus or to experience His presence for himself. This reminds us of the importance of being open to the message of Jesus and not letting doubt or skepticism stand in the way of our relationship with Him.
Thirdly, this passage invites us to reflect on our own response to the message of Jesus. Do we approach Him with an open heart and mind, seeking to deepen our faith and understanding of who He is? Or do we, like Herod, let doubt and skepticism cloud our judgment and prevent us from experiencing the true power and love of Jesus in our lives?
Furthermore, this passage challenges us to consider how we can strengthen our faith in Jesus and grow closer to Him. Through prayer, study of the Scriptures, and participation in the sacraments, we can deepen our relationship with Jesus and come to know Him more fully. By reflecting on our own response to Jesus, we can strive to be like the disciples who followed Him faithfully and allowed Him to transform their lives.
The passage from Luke 9:7-9 serves as a powerful reminder for us to reflect on our response to the message of Jesus. It challenges us to examine our faith and consider how we can deepen our relationship with Him. By seeking to know Him more fully and following Him faithfully, we can experience the true power and love of Jesus in our lives. May we be inspired by the disciples who walked with Him and allow His teachings and miracles to transform us from within.
