Obedience to God’s commandments and teaching others to do the same

Deut 4:1.5-9; Psalm: 147; Mt 5:17-19

Today’s readings provide valuable insights and instructions for believers on how to live a life that is pleasing to God. These passages highlight the importance of following God’s commandments and living according to His will in order to experience blessings and favor from Him. In Deuteronomy, Moses urges the Israelites to listen to the statutes and rules that he is teaching them, so that they may live and go in and take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of their fathers, is giving them. This verse emphasizes the importance of obedience and adherence to God’s laws in order to receive His promises and blessings.

In Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the Israelites of the significance of keeping God’s commandments and following His ways. He emphasizes the importance of teaching these commandments to future generations, so that they may continue to walk in God’s ways and experience His blessings. This passage serves as a reminder for believers to pass on the knowledge of God’s commandments to the next generation and to ensure that they continue to uphold His ways and live in obedience to Him.

Similarly, in Matthew, Jesus emphasizes the importance of upholding the law and the prophets. He states that He did not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them. Jesus instructs His followers to keep and teach others to keep the commandments, for those who do so will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. This passage reinforces the idea that obedience to God’s commandments is essential for believers to experience the fullness of God’s blessings and to be deemed righteous in His sight.

Reflecting on these passages, we can see that the key message is the importance of obedience to God’s commandments and living according to His will. By following God’s ways and teaching others to do the same, we will experience His favor and blessings in our lives. The Word of God serves as a guide for believers to live in righteousness and holiness, and to walk in obedience to His commands.

It is important for believers to reflect on these passages and to consider how they can apply the teachings in their daily lives. By continually seeking to follow God’s commandments and to teach others to do the same, we can walk in God’s ways and experience His blessings in our lives. Obedience to God’s Word is not only a requirement for righteousness, but it also brings about a deeper relationship with God and a greater understanding of His will for our lives.

As we reflect on Deuteronomy and Matthew, let us be reminded of the importance of living in obedience to God’s commandments and teaching others to do the same. Let us strive to be faithful followers of God’s Word, so that we may experience His blessings and favor in our lives. May we continue to seek God’s guidance and direction in all that we do, and may we always strive to walk in His ways and uphold His commandments in our daily lives.
