World Mission Sunday Event took place in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Than Lyin of Yangon Archdiocese, Myanmar, on October 17.

Pontifical Mission Society of Yangon Archdiocese headed by Rev. Fr.  James Kyaw Lin Tun, organized the event.

The event aims to bring knowledge about the missionary activities of different associations in the Archdiocese of Yangon to the children and the young people for their motivation and inspiration so that they may grow with the sense and desire to participate in missionary activities.

It was celebrated ahead of the World Mission Sunday which was on October 20, for the convenience of all the participants.

Auxiliary Bishop Noel Saw Naw Aye of Yangon Archdiocese, Auxiliary Bishop Francis Than Tun of Yangon Archdiocese, Msgr. Andrea Ferrante, Chargé d’ Affaires, and many priests joined the Mass.

In his homily, Bishop Francis Than Tun encouraged all to imitate a Carmelite nun, St Teresa of the Child Jesus, who was a patron saint of Missionaries. Normally, missionaries used to go out to the far-away places but St Teresa stayed in the convent and did the simple things.

“We can evangelize at home through prayer.  God hears our prayers and makes them into realities. She prays for the missionaries in the remote areas. Prayer is very important for the success of our missions,” emphasized the bishop.

He said that we are to fulfill our responsibility and it is a sort of mission at home.

“We are to try to know ourselves. We are to love, to act with love, and to listen to our conscience,” urged the bishop.

At the end of the Mass, Rev. Fr James Kyaw Lin Tun delivered words of thanks to all the participants.

Representatives of St Vincent de Paul, Youth Commission, Family Commission, and Legion of Mary presented their mission activities to the participants, especially to the Children and the young people.

Children from the 10 Parishes of Yangon Archdiocese presented their songs, dances, and plays to the participants.

About 1500 took part in the event of World Mission Sunday and among them, 1317 were Children.
