“Rooted in Christ”: Bishop Felix Visits Tamu Myo in Kalay Diocese After Five Years for Confirmation and Golden Jubilee

Bishop Felix Lian Khen Thang of the Diocese of Kalay visited Tamu Myo on October 24, 2026, for the first time in more than five years.
He came to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation and to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Catholic Church’s presence in Tamu Parish.

The celebration brought together Bishop Felix, ten priests, religious sisters, catechists, and about 1,000 faithful. During the event, around 100 children received the Sacrament of Confirmation. A Eucharistic celebration of thanksgiving followed, marking the parish’s 50 years of Catholic faith and witness.

Upon his arrival, the Bishop was warmly welcomed at the parish gate by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Martin Dal Ngaih Do, together with the local faithful.

In his homily, Bishop Felix stressed the close connection between the Sacrament of Confirmation and the Golden Jubilee. He explained that Confirmation strengthens the faithful through the gifts of the Holy Spirit and calls them to bear witness to Christ through their lives.

The Bishop encouraged the community to celebrate the Jubilee not just as a remembrance of the past, but as a chance to renew their faith and commitment to the Church’s mission. He highlighted the importance of remaining rooted in Christ and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.

He encouraged the faithful, especially the newly confirmed children, to live out their Christian faith with courage, love, and responsibility.

The Golden Jubilee also gave couples a chance to celebrate their marriage anniversaries. Four couples marked their Silver Wedding Jubilees, giving thanks to God for the blessings, faithfulness, and companionship they have experienced throughout their married lives. Their celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of Christian marriage, family life, and commitment to one another.

Tamu Parish is home to about 180 Catholic families. Many come from nearby villages to take part in the life and activities of the parish. Although the Catholic Church arrived in Tamu more than 20 years after its first arrival in the Diocese of Kalay, the Catholic community has continued to grow through the faith, dedication, and perseverance of generations of believers.
The Golden Jubilee marked not only 50 years of the Catholic Church’s presence in Tamu but also five decades of God’s faithfulness. It honored the dedication of missionaries and pastoral workers, and the active participation of local families in building up the Christian community.

The celebration was a moment of thanksgiving for the blessings received over the past 50 years. It was also an invitation for the entire parish community to look toward the future with renewed faith, hope, and missionary commitment.
For the faithful of Tamu Myo, the day was more than a ceremony. It was a homecoming for their shepherd, a milestone for their children, and a joyful reminder that their small community remains strong in faith after half a century.
