The Bread That Builds the House of Prayer

Isa 56:1.6-7, Psalm: 66, Mt 15:21-28

My dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Have you ever felt like an outsider? Like you don’t belong?

Today, Isaiah proclaims a beautiful vision: God’s house will be a house of prayer for all peoples—not just the chosen few, but foreigners, outcasts, everyone who seeks Him.

Then we meet the Canaanite woman. She is a Gentile, an outsider with no right to ask Jesus for anything. Her daughter is suffering, and she cries out for mercy. The disciples want to send her away. Jesus is silent. He even compares her to a dog.

Most of us would walk away, hurt and offended.

Not her. She humbly replies, “Even the dogs eat the scraps.” She doesn’t demand. She doesn’t insist on her rights. She simply begs for mercy, clinging to His goodness, not her worthiness.

And Jesus is amazed. “O woman, great is your faith!” Her daughter is healed instantly.

What a tender lesson for us! We carry shame. We feel too broken to pray. But this woman teaches us that God is not moved by our perfection—He is moved by a persistent, humble heart.

So this week, don’t be silent. Cry out to Him. His table is open. His scraps are more than enough. The house of God is a house of prayer—for you, for me, for everyone who calls upon His name.

Come boldly. Come humbly. He hears you. Amen.
