Our need for Jesus’ healing

1Cor 3:1-9; Psalm: 32; Lk 4:38-44

In today’s Gospel, Lk 4:38-44, Jesus healed Simon’s mother-in-law who was suffering from a high fever. This episode demonstrates Jesus’ compassion and power as a healer. His touch brings instant healing to the woman, and she can rise and serve them. Through this act of healing, Jesus not only reveals his divine authority but also shows his care for those who are suffering. This passage highlights the importance of seeking help from Jesus in times of physical and spiritual illness or distress, as he has the power to bring restoration and healing to our lives.

Moreover, after healing Simon’s mother-in-law, Jesus continues to heal many others who are brought to him. This shows the all-encompassing nature of Jesus’ healing ministry and emphasizes his mission to bring healing and wholeness to all who seek him. We are reminded of the importance of turning to Jesus in times of need, trusting in his power to bring healing and restoration to our lives. Just as the people in the passage brought their sick to Jesus for healing, we too can come to him with our burdens and find comfort and healing in his presence.

Finally, today’s Gospel challenges us to reflect on our own need for healing and restoration. Like the people in the passage, we all have areas of brokenness and pain in our lives that we need Jesus to heal. This passage encourages us to come to Jesus with open hearts, seeking his healing touch and trusting in his power to bring wholeness to our lives. As we reflect on Jesus’ ministry of healing, may we be inspired to turn to him in times of need and experience the fullness of his healing grace in our lives.
