The Diocesan Socio-Pastoral Staff gathered for their monthly recollection on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Diocesan Center in Pathein. The spiritual event brought together approximately 80 participants from various diocesan offices and ministries.

Fr. Zuzel, Parish Priest of St. Mary Parish in Mwe Hauk village, served as the preacher and spiritual guide for the day-long recollection.

Learning from Samson: Seek the Giver, Not Just the Gifts

In his spiritual talk, Fr. Zuzel drew lessons from the life of Samson, the biblical judge known for his extraordinary strength. He reminded the staff that Samson’s power did not come from his own ability but from God’s grace.

“Throughout biblical history, Samson, Noah, and Abraham stand as remarkable examples of faith,” Fr. Zuzel said. “Their lives teach us the importance of faithfulness, obedience, and unwavering trust in God.”

Fr. Zuzel explained that Samson’s uncut hair was not the source of his strength but a symbol of his dedication to God. As long as Samson remained faithful to his covenant with God, God’s power continued to work through him.

The preacher emphasized a critical lesson from Samson’s story. “The true source of our strength is never our own abilities, talents, or achievements—it is God Himself,” he said. “The blessings we receive are gifts of His grace, but they should always lead us closer to the One who gives them.”

Fr. Zuzel recounted how Samson eventually lost his strength after betraying his covenant with God through Delilah’s deception. The Philistines captured him, gouged out his eyes, and imprisoned him. Yet even in his final moment, Samson repented and prayed to God for strength.

“Blessings may be temporary, but those who live with God the Giver of blessings will remain in God’s grace and eventually receive the inheritance and eternal life that He has promised,” Fr. Zuzel concluded. “Our life of faith should be a life of seeking God the Giver of blessings and walking with Him daily, rather than seeking blessings.”

Program and Participants

The recollection brought together staff from multiple diocesan offices, including KMSS Pathein, OSC-Pathein, RVA Pwo Karen, AD GENTES Studio, the Commission Office, Diocesan Curia Office, and various workers and drivers within the compound. Kitchen staff also participated on an optional basis.

The program began with the Holy Rosary at 8:30 a.m., followed by two spiritual talks at 9:00 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Participants then had time for personal reflection and the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The morning session concluded with the Celebration of the Eucharist at 11:15 a.m.

In the afternoon, the program resumed at 1:30 p.m. with presentations and discussions led by facilitators. The sessions provided an opportunity for staff to reflect more deeply on their ministry, share experiences, and learn from one another.

Renewing Commitment to Service

The monthly recollection was organized to provide staff with an opportunity to renew their spiritual strength amid daily responsibilities. During the sessions, participants reflected on the difficulties, challenges, and experiences they encounter in their ministry.

The importance of listening to one another, collaborating, and serving together in love was also emphasized. Staff were encouraged to integrate their faith with their ministry so they may carry out their social and pastoral responsibilities more effectively and faithfully.

The program concluded with a blessing from the Director, bringing the monthly recollection to a meaningful close. Participants left with renewed energy and commitment to continue journeying together in faith and mission.
