Jubilee Celebration Honors Elderly Priests, Brothers, and Sisters in Pathein

A special Jubilee celebration for the elderly priests, brothers, and sisters was held at the retired house of the St. Francis Xavier Sisters on July 6, 2025, at 6:00 AM in St. Mary, the elderly house of the St. Francis Xavier Sisters in Pathein, Myanmar.

Bishop Henry Eikhlein of Pathein Diocese presided over the Jubilee Mass, marking a moment of gratitude and reflection for the dedicated service of religious elders in the Church.
During the Eucharistic celebration, Bishop Henry emphasized the significance of the 2025 Jubilee Year, which is being observed globally with various themes, including jubilees for clergy, religious, youth, and families.

“Today, we honor our elderly priests, brothers, and sisters who have devoted decades to God’s mission,” he said. “Their sacrifices inspire us to continue the work of the Church in the 21st century.”
Reflecting on the Gospel of Luke (10:1-12, 17-20), the bishop highlighted Jesus’ call for laborers in the plentiful harvest. He praised the older generation for their decades of missionary work while urging the youth to carry the mission forward.

“Mission is eternal—it does not end with retirement,” he said. “Even when physical strength fades, prayer sustains the Church’s work, as seen in the lives of saints like St. Theresa of the Child Jesus.”
Mother Ann Theresa, Superior of the St. Francis Xavier Congregation, expressed heartfelt thanks to the bishop and attendees, particularly acknowledging the elderly sisters aged 90 and 93 for their lifelong dedication.

She encouraged younger generations to remain steadfast in faith amid modern challenges, advising, “Choose goodness over cleverness, and count God’s blessings daily.”
The celebration concluded with a shared breakfast, symbolizing unity and gratitude. The event served as both a tribute to the past and a call to future missions, reinforcing the Church’s enduring spirit across generations.
