Over 300 children gathered at St. Anthony Church in Putao on October 10, 2025, for a combined Mass and prayer service dedicated to world peace and the 2025 Jubilee Year.

The event, organized as part of the global “Million Children’s Prayer” initiative, aimed to mobilize the young faithful for spiritual and communal goals.

Parish Priest, Father John Byin Tu Awng, outlined the four primary objectives: to unite children in prayer, intercede for global peace and prosperity, help children understand and receive the graces of the Jubilee, and encourage their active participation in the Church’s pastoral works.

A total of 311 children from the parish participated in the service, which centered on the recitation of the Rosary for peace.

The sight of hundreds of young voices united in prayer created a powerful testament to the role of youth in the contemporary Church.

“The primary aim was to involve our children in a global wave of prayer for peace,” Father John Byin Tu Awng stated, emphasizing the importance of nurturing faith from a young age.

“We also want them to understand the significance of the Jubilee Year and to feel empowered as active members of our parish community.”

The event in Putao was part of a wider wave of prayer initiatives observed across the region. The following day, on October 11, a much larger gathering of over 400 young missionaries assembled at St. Columban’s Cathedral in Myitkyina to recite the Rosary with the same intention for world peace.

These coordinated prayer services highlight a growing emphasis on engaging youth in spiritual practices and concerns for global solidarity.

The use of the “Peace Rosary” served as a tangible symbol of the children’s hopes for reconciliation and harmony in a troubled world.

By integrating the themes of the Jubilee Year with a call for peace, the parish successfully provided its youngest members with a sense of purpose and belonging within the broader mission of the Church.
