Little Way Association Marks 25 Years of Missionary Service with Silver Jubilee

The Little Way Missionary of St. Thérèse Association (L.W.M.T) celebrated its Silver Jubilee on Saturday, marking 25 years of missionary work with a Thanksgiving Mass that highlighted its growth from a local initiative to an international presence.
The Eucharistic celebration, held on October 11, 2025, at the Aungpan parish in the Taunggyi Archdiocese, was presided over by Archbishop Basilio Athai. He led the congregation in honoring a quarter-century of service inspired by the “little way” of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus.

In his homily, Archbishop Athai expressed profound gratitude for the association’s expansion. “It is by the grace of God that the Little Way Association, which was once little known in Myanmar, has now become recognized not only nationwide but also internationally, even sending missionary priests abroad,” he stated. He underscored the mission’s core, saying, “Love is not measured by greatness or smallness. The more love you give, the more it grows; the more you receive, the more it fills your life.”

The association’s cofounder, Archbishop Emeritus Nicholas Mang Thang, recounted its humble beginnings. He explained the name was chosen to honor the significant contributions of sisters who teach the Word of God, promote literacy, and serve the faithful in parishes. He noted that the foundation was later expanded to include the Little Way Men’s Priesthood Association to further support missionary work.

Reflecting the celebratory spirit, Fr. Thomas Mazio, Moderator of the L.W.M.T., expressed pride and a renewed commitment. “Our mission continues beyond Myanmar’s borders, aiming to transform even the smallest acts into great deeds,” he said. He acknowledged logistical challenges that led to a change in venue but thanked God for the milestone celebration.

The association’s impact was further highlighted by its vocational success. Fr. Leo announced a significant milestone: “We are especially proud that the association has produced 25 missionary priests over these 25 years—a true blessing for the Church.”

Personal testimonies illustrated this growth. Fr. John Law Ki shared his journey from a non-Christian family to the priesthood, fueled by a promise made to St. Thérèse.

Fr. Christopher Aung Hkam emphasized the enduring mission: “As Little Way priests, we follow the example of St. Thérèse, serving God and His people with love in even the smallest matters.”

The celebration drew clergy and lay faithful from various dioceses, including Bishop Augustine Thang Zawm Hung of Mindat Diocese. A ceremony honoring benefactors followed the Mass.

The Silver Jubilee served not only as a milestone of faith and service but also as a pledge from the Little Way Association to continue spreading God’s love through humble, dedicated acts.
