Teachers in Mandalay Archdiocese Complete 4-Day Training to Reach Displaced Children

A Four-day capacity-building training, held from May 28 to 31, 2026, brought together 24 church-service teachers from across the Archdiocese of Mandalay.

Organized by Fr. Augustine Win Myint, the sessions were led by external trainers, priests, and nuns, covering not only teaching methods but also social culture, teacher-student relationships, and child protection policies.
“The Archdiocese is undertaking this initiative to ensure that children who have lost their chance at education due to various difficulties can finally access it,” Fr. Augustine told those gathered.

He explained that the primary goal is to enhance teachers’ capacity so they can reach these children more effectively. “We wanted to understand their current progress and practices, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and determine how we can better support them to improve.”
The training is part of the “Seeds of Hope” education project, born in 2022.

Trainer Diana May Thet Thet Phyo, who teaches child development and teaching methodologies, said she accepted the invitation gladly. “Since our role is to share knowledge with the teachers who directly instruct the children, it is a meritorious deed.”

She offered a direct message to younger teachers just starting: “We must be genuinely interested, passionate about this job, and truly love the children. We must strive to understand their behaviors and circumstances thoroughly.”

Participating teachers echoed the value of the training. Teacher Stephen called it “like receiving a valuable teaching aid.”
Teacher Regina Yin Mar Thet said new insights into child psychology and children’s rights clarified “what to do and what not to do.”

Teacher Shon Lae Khaing, attending such a training for the first time, called it “a joyful experience.”

Archbishop Marco Tin Win of Mandalay issued a message of gratitude to the donors.
“Many children, including those displaced and those in difficult circumstances, have been able to continue their education, feel respected, find stability, and regain hope,” Archbishop Tin Win said. “We humbly request your continued support.”
He assured donors that all aid is managed with strict accountability and transparent financial stewardship.
