From Wounded Bride to Crowned Martyr: The Unconditional Love of God

My dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

There is a love story in today’s readings. And it is our story.

Ezekiel speaks of a baby girl, abandoned and covered in blood. God finds her, washes her, clothes her in silk, and crowns her with beauty. He loves her completely. But she becomes unfaithful, chasing after idols.

Yet God whispers: “I will remember my covenant with you.” Even after our unfaithfulness, He restores us.

Then Jesus speaks of faithfulness—in marriage, in celibacy. He calls us to a love that is unbreakable.

Today we remember St. Maximilian Kolbe, who lived that love. In Auschwitz, a man cried out for his wife and children. Fr. Kolbe stepped forward and said, “I will take his place.” He was thrown into a starvation bunker, where he prayed and sang until the end—offering his life for a stranger.

This is the love God has for us. Even when we wander, He runs to us. Even when we are unfaithful, He remembers His promise.

What does this mean for you? You are the bride God adores. You are the one He forgives. And you are called to love like Kolbe—not necessarily to die, but to give your life daily for others.

This week, let go of your shame. Return to His embrace. And love—radically, faithfully, without counting the cost. Amen.
