Young people from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish from Kyaingtong Diocese gathered for a Youth Leadership Training from August 9 to 11, receiving formation in leadership, self-awareness, and media literacy.

On the final day of the training, Bishop John Saw Yaw Han of Kyaingtong Diocese encouraged the young participants to look to the life and virtues of Saint Clare as an example. He reminded them to embrace their daily challenges to gain the treasure of Heaven.

In this challenging age, he encouraged the youth to be courageous enough to bring about positive change. He urged them to cultivate the virtues necessary to become great in the Kingdom of Heaven. He illustrated these teachings through the biblical example of a little child.

Training and Participants

The training was organized and led by Fr. Henry Law Gaw, the Youth Director. A religious sister and dedicated youth leaders assisted him. A total of 63 young people from various small parish communities participated in the training.

Lessons in Self-Awareness and Leadership

During the training, Sr. Elizabeth Su Su Htwe, SFX, shared that young people who aspire to become good leaders must be thoughtful and reflective. She emphasized that everyone has their own unique abilities.

Sr. Elizabeth explained that fair and balanced thinking is essential for building harmonious relationships. Rather than striving for things far beyond their abilities, the sister encouraged the youth to recognize and develop the gifts they already possess. This, SFX sister said, brings them closer to success.

She further explained that knowing oneself, loving oneself, and caring for oneself are important qualities that a good leader should possess.

Navigating the Media Environment

In addition, the participants were guided on how to respond wisely to the challenges of today’s media environment. They were encouraged to learn how to distinguish and choose reliable and truthful information.

The young people were urged to remain vigilant and avoid being deceived by misinformation and fake news. The training helped them develop the skills to navigate the complex media landscape with wisdom and discernment.

A Call to Positive Change

Through these teachings and reflections, the young people were encouraged to respond to the challenges of the present age with knowledge, awareness, and wisdom. The training aimed to help them grow into responsible and capable leaders who can positively contribute to their communities and the Church.

Bishop John’s message on the final day served as a powerful conclusion to the three-day event. He reminded the youth that daily challenges are not obstacles but opportunities. By embracing them with faith and courage, they can gain the treasure of Heaven.

The Youth Leadership Training at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish marks an important investment in the future of the Church in Kyaingtong. The 63 young participants left with renewed confidence and practical skills to serve their communities with faith and dedication.
