The fourth edition of the Than Zin San Yay (Melody Spring) Gospel Song Competition concluded with a grand final at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Yangon on August 30, 2026, bringing together 12 young Christian vocalists from across the nation in a celebration of faith and musical talent.

The event, organized by the Yangon Archdiocesan Youth Commission, drew a packed congregation and showcased the growing unity among young Christians from different denominations. The program commenced at 12:22 PM with a vibrant Myanmar cultural dance performed by the youth of St. Augustine Parish.

His Excellency Bishop Francis Than Htun, Auxiliary Bishop of Yangon Archdiocese, attended the entire event, while His Excellency Bishop Noel Saw Naw Aye, also Auxiliary Bishop of Yangon Archdiocese, joined during the final segment. Three young singers opened the competition with musical performances before Saya Maurice Aung Swe Oo, the competition coordinator, delivered his welcoming address.

“This competition brings together young people from different Christian denominations,” Saya Maurice explained. “It provides an opportunity for Christian youth to develop their musical abilities and use their talents more effectively in ministry.”

The competition began on June 30 and continued over two months, with preliminary rounds held on Sundays. From an initial pool of 72 participants, the top 12 finalists advanced to the grand stage, competing for significant prizes. The first-place winner received 5 million Myanmar kyats (approximately US$1,200), while the second and third-place winners received 3 million and 2 million kyats respectively, along with additional gifts. All remaining finalists received 200,000 kyats each as consolation prizes.

Saya Maurice expressed gratitude to the esteemed panel of judges—renowned Myanmar Christian vocalist Nwe Yin Win, Than Thar Win, and Nay Nay—for their generous contribution of time and expertise throughout the competition. He also acknowledged the sponsors, including Parami Hotel, Ngwe Saung Village Resort Hotel, Happy Coffee, and Woods Cough Medicine, for their vital support.

The Salt and Light Music Ministry, organized by Rev. Fr. Marcian Thet Kyaw, delivered three Gospel performances before the main competition, while the Salt and Light Music Band of St. Augustine Parish provided musical accompaniment throughout the event.

A special collection was organized to support communities affected by severe flooding across several parts of Myanmar. Well-known vocalists Zwe Pyi, Nay Min Aein, and Si Thu Lwin performed during the fundraising initiative, drawing strong audience participation.

The grand final singing competition officially commenced at 1:30 PM. The 12 finalists delivered passionate performances of their selected Gospel songs, each seeking to glorify God through their musical gifts. Following each performance, the judges offered constructive comments and words of encouragement.

During the scoring deliberation, all 12 finalists united to perform “Kabar Thit,” the competition’s theme song composed by Rev. Fr. Marcian Thet Kyaw. The performance created an atmosphere of anticipation and excitement as participants and audience members awaited the final results.

Bora Eh Phaw from Taung Gyi was crowned as the first-place winner, followed by Rita La Min Eain from Loikaw as the second-place winner, and Olivia from Ahlone Parish, Yangon, as the third-place winner.

At the conclusion of the event, organizers honored and expressed deep appreciation to all sponsors, judges, musicians, volunteers, and contributors who ensured the competition’s success.

The Than Zin San Yay Gospel Song Competition has been held annually for approximately 12 years. The 2026 edition marked a significant milestone, as young people from different Christian denominations were invited to participate, transforming the event into not only a platform for musical talent but also an opportunity for Christian fellowship, unity, and communion.

Organizers expressed hope that the annual competition will continue to inspire young Christians to develop their gifts and use their talents in service of the Church and society, fostering harmony and collaboration across denominational lines.

The success of this year’s competition reaffirms the vibrant faith and creative energy of Myanmar’s Christian youth, promising a bright future for Gospel music in the country.
