‘One in the Lord and His Mother’: 120 Children Form Living Rosary for Peace in Mawlamyine

About 120 children and young people from Mawlamyine Diocese joined the global Catholic prayer initiative “One Million Children Praying the Rosary for Peace and Unity” on October 4, 2026, at Holy Family Cathedral in Mawlamyine Diocese, forming a living rosary as they prayed for peace in Myanmar and throughout the world.
Although the main day of the annual initiative is October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, the children and young people of Mawlamyine Diocese held their prayer gathering on October 4 according to their local circumstances and convenience.
The prayer event was organized by Bishop Maurice Nyunt Wai, Bishop of Mawlamyine Diocese, together with the parish priest of Holy Family Cathedral.

A Living Rosary
One of the distinctive features of the gathering was the way the participants arranged themselves in the shape of a rosary while praying. The children, young people, religious sisters, and priests formed the rosary together, creating a visible symbol of prayer, unity, and communion.
Explaining the purpose of the prayer, Bishop Maurice Nyunt Wai said that the participants were praying especially for peace and unity in Myanmar, which continues to face difficulties and conflict. He also invited the participants to pray for peace throughout the world, peace in families and communities, and an end to war, violence, and hatred, particularly in Myanmar.
The Bishop described the gathering as a powerful symbol of the Synodal Church—a community journeying together. He explained that forming the image of the rosary with priests, religious sisters, and children expresses the spirit of communion and interconnectedness.
“Just as the beads are held together by a string, we are united by the love of Jesus, who died on the cross for us, and through our connection with Mary, the Mother of Christ,” Bishop Maurice said.
He added that the participants are “one in the Lord and His Mother” as they pray together for peace in the world.

A Global Movement of Prayer
The “One Million Children Praying the Rosary” initiative is a global Catholic prayer campaign organized annually by Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), a pontifical foundation supporting Christians who face persecution and hardship. The initiative is held on October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.
The prayer campaign began in 2005 in Caracas, Venezuela, when a small group of children gathered to pray the Rosary. Their prayer inspired an international movement that has continued to grow each year.
The initiative is inspired by the words attributed to Padre Pio, who expressed the hope that if a million children prayed the Rosary, the world would change.
Through their participation, the children and young people of Mawlamyine Diocese joined millions of Catholics and other Christians around the world in entrusting the needs of the Church and the world to the intercession of Mary, Queen of the Rosary.

Praying for Myanmar
Their prayer in Mawlamyine carried a particular intention for peace, reconciliation, and unity in Myanmar, as well as peace in families, communities, and throughout the world.
In a nation marked by ongoing conflict and suffering, the gathering of children and young people offered a powerful witness of hope. Their simple act of forming a rosary with their bodies and lifting their voices in prayer sent a message that transcends words: that even in the midst of darkness, the light of faith continues to shine.

As the children prayed, they embodied the words of Jesus: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” In their innocence and faith, they became instruments of peace, reminding all who witnessed them that the future belongs to those who trust in God.
The gathering concluded with prayers for peace and unity, as the children and young people of Mawlamyine Diocese joined their voices with millions around the world, entrusting Myanmar and all its people to the loving intercession of Mary, Queen of the Rosary.
