Myanmar Bishops Declare March 26 Special Day of Prayer and Fasting for Peace

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Myanmar (CBCM) has designated March 26 as a special day of intense prayer and fasting for peace in Myanmar and throughout the world.

In a message to the faithful during the Holy Lenten Season, CBCM President His Eminence Cardinal Charles Maung Bo and Secretary General Bishop Noel Saw Naw Aye encouraged Catholics to deepen their spiritual commitment through prayer, fasting, and acts of charity.

A Sacred Time for Penance

The bishops said Lent is a sacred time for penance, conversion of heart, and strengthening one’s relationship with God. During this season, the Church calls on the faithful to devote more time to prayer, practice fasting, and extend charity to those in need.

They urged Catholics to pray especially for peace in conflict-affected regions, including the Middle East and Myanmar. The bishops expressed gratitude to the faithful for their continued prayers for peace.

Citing Pope Leo XIV’s message, the bishops reminded the faithful that lasting peace is built through the practical practice of love, compassion, and mutual understanding in daily life.

Three Spiritual Practices

To mark the special day on March 26, the bishops invited all Catholics to unite in three spiritual practices.

First, the prayer for peace and unity. Second, fasting in solidarity with the suffering of Jesus Christ for the conversion of hearts. Third, charitable support for the poor and those who are suffering. The bishops also encouraged the faithful to keep in their hearts the well-known prayer for peace of St. Francis of Assisi as they pray for Myanmar and the world.
