The Good Shepherd and the Generous Landowner: Embracing the Kingdom’s Economy

Ezek 34:1-11, Psalm: 22, Mt 20:1-16

My dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Have you ever felt like you came too late? Too broken, too unworthy, too far behind?

Ezekiel speaks to that fear. God condemns the shepherds who neglected His flock. But then He whispers the most tender promise: “I myself will look after my sheep. I will search for the lost, bring back the strayed, bind up the injured.” He is the Good Shepherd who never gives up on us.

Then Jesus tells a story that turns our logic upside down. A landowner hires workers all day long—some at dawn, some at noon, some at the very last hour. When evening comes, he pays them all the same. The all-day workers grumble. But the landowner says gently, “Are you envious because I am generous?”

This is the heart of God. Grace is not a wage you earn—it is a gift you receive. The one who comes at the eleventh hour is welcomed as warmly as the one who has labored all day. Because God’s love is not about fairness—it is about generosity.

So if you feel like you’ve wandered, like you’re late to the vineyard, take heart. The Shepherd is searching for you. The Landowner is calling you. His mercy is not for the perfect—it is for the lost.

This week, stop comparing your journey to others. Rejoice in God’s generosity. He welcomes you—right now, exactly as you are. Amen.

May God bless you all.
