The Riches That Last: Trading Earthly Pride for Heavenly Treasure
Ezek 28:1-10, Psalm: Deut 32, Mt 19:23-30
My dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
The king of Tyre had it all—wealth, power, wisdom. And he thought, “I am a god.” But God reminded him: you are mortal. Pride built his throne, and pride brought him down.
Then Jesus speaks those startling words: “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God.” The disciples are shocked. “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looks at them with love and says, “For God, all things are possible.”
Peter, always honest, asks: “We have left everything. What will we get?” Jesus promises a hundredfold—and eternal life. The first will be last, and the last first.
What does this mean for you? We may not be kings of Tyre, but we build our little kingdoms every day. We trust in our savings, our reputation, our control. We cling to comfort and status. But Jesus gently invites us to let go.
He’s not asking us to be poor for the sake of poverty. He’s asking us to be free—free to trust Him completely. Because when we stop grasping, we discover that God provides. When we become last, we find ourselves first in His heart.
This week, release your grip on something you’re holding too tightly. Trust God with it. He sees your sacrifice, and He promises—a hundredfold, now and forever. Amen.
May God bless you all.
