A New Heart and a Royal Wedding: The Call to Transformation
Ezek 36:23-28, Psalm: 50, Mt 22:1-14
Memorial of Saint Bernard, Abbot and Doctor of the Church
My dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
Have you ever felt like your heart has grown hard? Cold? Stubborn?
Ezekiel speaks directly to that place. God promises: “I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you. I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” Not a patch-up job—a complete renewal. God Himself will transform us from the inside out.
Then Jesus tells a story. A king prepares a wedding feast for his son. He invites everyone—the good and the bad. The hall is filled. But one guest is without a wedding garment, and he is cast out.
The garment is not about fancy clothes. It is the life of grace—the transformation that comes when we let God change our hearts. The invitation is free. But we must respond. We must allow the King to clothe us with His mercy, His love, His holiness.
Today we remember St. Bernard, who said: “What we love, we shall grow to resemble.”
This week, ask yourself: Is my heart stone or flesh? Am I wearing the garment of grace, or relying on my own righteousness? Let us ask Jesus to clothe us with His mercy. Let us trust that He who invites us will also transform us.
Come to the feast. Put on the garment. Let Him give you a new heart. Amen.
May God bless you all.
