‘Renewed Disciples’: 14 Catechists Complete Week-Long Spiritual Course in M’kuiimnu Zone in Midat Diocese

Fourteen catechists from four communities across the M’kuiimnu Zone completed a six-day Catechists’ Renewal Course from October 14 to 19, 2026, returning to their parishes with fresh knowledge, deeper faith, and renewed commitment to their ministry.

Moreover, the annual gathering honoring St. Luke, patron saint of catechists, brought parishioners from Duk Parish, Kinhlih Parish, Kyunglong Parish, and M’kuimnu Parish. The picturesque village of M’kuiimnu hosted this year’s event.

Arriving on October 14, the participants stepped away from their daily routines to immerse themselves in spiritual enrichment. The course was facilitated by the parish priests representing each of the four home communities, creating a collaborative and supportive environment for all attendees.

Four Pillars of Learning

Throughout the course, the catechists participated in intensive classes led by knowledgeable clergy, each session carefully chosen to equip them with the tools, knowledge, and spiritual depth necessary for their ministry.

The Heart of Catechism: Led by Fr. Michael Thang Law Ha, this session focused on the vital importance of teaching catechism to children. Fr. Michael reminded the participants that nurturing the faith of the younger generation is not just an educational task but the core mission of the Catholic Church.

Walking Through Church History: Presented by Fr. Peter Om Shing, this class took participants through the rich heritage of the global faith community. Fr. Peter stressed that knowing the history of the Church directly increases personal faith, helping believers develop a profound appreciation for their Catholic identity.

Embracing the Sacraments: Taught by Fr. Matthew Ling Ghung, this session explored the immense grace found within the sacraments. The teaching emphasized the necessity for the faithful to actively receive the sacraments whenever the occasion arises, serving as a direct lifeline to deepen their spiritual walk.

Catholic Social Teaching in Action: Guided by Fr. Peter Ling Naing, participants learned about the social dimensions of the faith. Fr. Peter highlighted how Catholic social teachings empower believers to lead others toward God while actively supporting their neighbors through compassionate, practical living.

Two Sisters of St. Theresa also helped with the renewal course through action songs and dancing, adding joy and energy to the sessions.

Celebrating St. Luke and World Mission Sunday

A spiritual highlight of the gathering occurred on Sunday, October 18, 2026, when the community joyfully celebrated the Feast Day of St. Luke, which coincided with World Mission Sunday.

Surrounded by fellow catechists and spiritual leaders, the participants reflected on the global mission of the Church. The feast day celebrations deeply resonated with their daily calling as catechists—to act as modern-day missionaries within their local towns and villages, spreading the Gospel message with passion and dedication.

Homeward Bound with Grateful Hearts

After days of intensive learning, prayer, and community building, the renewal course drew to a close. On October 19, 2026, the fourteen catechists packed their belongings and departed for their respective parishes.

They returned to Duk, Kinhlih, Kyunglong, and M’kuimnu not just as teachers, but as renewed disciples. Carrying fresh insights, deeper theological understanding, and a strengthened sense of fellowship, they offered heartfelt thanks to God for the transformative opportunity of the 2026 renewal course—ready to share the light of faith with everyone in their home parishes.
