Saint Matthew was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. Before following Jesus, he worked as a tax collector. Jesus called him, saying, “Follow me,” and Matthew left his work to become His disciple.

After Jesus’ Ascension, Matthew preached the Gospel to different people. He is traditionally believed to have written the Gospel of Matthew. According to Christian tradition, he later died as a martyr while preaching the faith.
