
Pope Leo XIV appoints a new coadjutor bishop of Taungngu Diocese in Myanmar

Pope Leo XIV appointed Most Rev. Msgr. Bernardino Ne Ne to be a coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Taungngu at noon, Rome time (4:30 PM Myanmar Standard Time) on May 26, 2026.
56 years old, Msgr. Bernardino Ne Ne was born on May 20, 1970. He was ordained as a priest by Apostolic Delegate to Myanmar, Archbishop Luigi Bressan, at Christ the King Cathedral in Loikaw on April 13, 1995, and incardinated in the Diocese of Loikaw.
He began his priestly ministry as assistant parish priest of St. Joseph’s Church in Dimoso from 1995 to 1999. He then served as the parish priest of Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Khabe from 1999 to 2002.

From 2003 to 2005, he pursued studies in Italy, earning a Licentiate in Moral Theology from the Pontifical Alphonsian University in Rome. Returning to Myanmar, he became the parish priest of Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Khabe, in 2005.
In 2006, he was appointed Rector of St. Peter’s Intermediate Seminary, a position he held for nine years. From 2015 to 2024, he served as National Director of the Pontifical Missionary Works in Yangon.
In 2025, he served in the role of the Director of the residence of the Loikaw Diocese in Yangon. He returned to parish ministry as parish priest of Mother of God Church, Sondu, in the Diocese of Loikaw in December 2025, a position he reportedly held until his recent appointment.
The Coadjutor Bishop Elect will assist and succeed the 71-year-old Bishop John Saw Gawdy of Taungngu Diocese.
