RVA Day celebrated in the Banmaw Diocese

More than 500 Catholics gathered at an internally displaced persons camp in the Banmaw Diocese on May 10 to celebrate the RVA Day of Kachin Jinghpaw Service.

The event, held as Part-2 of the process, began with a Holy Mass at 8:00 a.m. presided over by Bishop Raymond Sumlut Gam of Banmaw Diocese, joined by priests, sisters, and catechists.

Homily: Preaching the Truth from the Housetops

In his homily, Bishop Raymond emphasized the core mission of Radio Veritas Asia. “There are many RVA programs, but the number one is to preach the word of the Lord and preach the gospel,” he said. “The gospel of the Lord is the freedom and salvation of a human being.”

Quoting Matthew 10:27—”What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops”—the bishop explained that this is precisely the work RVA is doing. He called on the faithful to be proud of this mission and to participate.

“How shall they hear without a preacher?” he asked. “No one knows the Lord Jesus without preaching about Him. Let us participate in RVA’s work to increase the number of believers and good people who live by the word of the Lord.”

The bishop said, “RVA is a media that broadcasts the truth. It takes time to become true news, and the staff are working hard. Therefore, let us encourage RVA, participate, donate, and pray for them.”

He also noted the importance of holistic well-being—body, soul, and mind—and mentioned RVA’s agriculture program as a gift from God.

Testimonies of Listeners

Following the Mass, Coordinator Fr. Thomas Salaw Brang Awng explained the history, mission, and vision of RVA Kachin Jinghpaw. Staff performed a group song, and listeners shared testimonies.

Mrs. Mary Galang Lu Bu said listening to RVA’s daily programs is spiritually encouraging. “I learned how to talk to children in the family, how to be humble, how to be patient. I also listen to church news and the Pope’s messages. Therefore, I learned that the Pope never abandons the flock; he prays and blesses us.”

Mrs. Asumta Lum Ban shared her joy in writing letters to RVA. “RVA news and programs are appropriate. Writing to RVA, listening to news programs, I feel many blessings. I gain knowledge, skills, peace of mind, and happiness. Writing to my brothers and sisters, I feel happy.”
