Second Joint RVA Day in Hakha Draws 700 Faithful, Bishop Says Four Services Exist ‘Because They Are Needed’

Despite heavy rain and ongoing difficulties in Chin State, around 700 Catholics gathered at Charbal Church on May 10 for the second joint RVA Day of the Hakha and Falam services, demonstrating what Bishop Lucius Hre Kung called the faithful’s strong love for God.
The event brought together young people, children, and adults, along with the bishop, six priests, nine religious sisters, and fifteen major seminarians. The first joint RVA Day, held on May 3, drew about 1,000 believers.

‘Because They Are Needed’
In his homily, Bishop Lucius addressed a common question: why are there four RVA services in Chin State? His answer was direct: “Because they are needed.”
He acknowledged that the RVA work in Chin State remains incomplete but said the team is trying its best to improve it.
Early Christians as a Model

The Bishop reflected on the early Christians who, because of persecution, traveled to many places and shared the good news of the resurrection. In this way, the Christian faith spread far beyond Jerusalem, reaching even the Chin Hills.
He reminded the audience that all baptized Catholics have a duty to serve God. Christians should not only listen but also actively witness for Christ.

Philip’s Example
The Bishop also spoke about Philip, one of seven men chosen by the disciples. Philip was not only a church organizer but also a brave preacher who shared the gospel in Samaria after persecution forced him to leave his home. In the Church community, the Bishop said, everyone should care for one another, and no one should be forgotten.
Ready to Explain Faith
Referring to the second reading from 1 Peter, the Bishop encouraged Christians to always be ready to explain their faith with kindness, respect, and a clear conscience. Believers should patiently explain the teachings of the Church to anyone who asks about their faith.

Media as a Tool for Evangelization
The Bishop called RVA an important online ministry and stressed that God’s word should be shared correctly through media. Although many churches claim to be true churches, Christians should follow the teachings of Jesus. He reminded the audience that Catholic faithful believe in the Holy Trinity and are united with God through communion.
Even though Catholics are few in Chin State, they can still share the gospel through media platforms. He asked everyone to support RVA by sharing sermons, reflections, and messages so that more people can hear God’s word.

Faith Despite Rain
The heavy rain did not deter the faithful. Around 700 Christians attended, filling Charbal Church for the celebration. The festival showed the strong faith and love that the faithful have for God.
The event concluded with a spirit of unity and mission, as the community reaffirmed its commitment to using media to spread the message of salvation. The second joint RVA Day stood as a testament to the resilience of Catholic media in Chin State and the devotion of its people.
