The Mark That Saves and the Mercy That Restores

My dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

There is a beautiful mystery in today’s readings. Ezekiel sees a man marking the foreheads of those who weep over sin—a mark of protection. It is a shadow of the cross we bear, the sign that saves us.

We are marked by mercy.

Then Jesus teaches us how to love one another when we stumble. If a brother sins, go to him quietly. If he listens, you have gained him. The goal is not to win an argument—it is to win back a soul. Mercy, not judgment. Restoration, not rejection.

Where two or three gather in His name, He is there. What a tender promise!

Today we remember St. Jane Frances de Chantal. She knew sorrow—she was a widow and a mother who buried her children. Yet she became a woman of radiant gentleness. She founded the Visitation Order and lived mercy in the smallest moments. She said, “Hold your eyes on God and leave the doing to Him.”

What does this mean for us? We bear the mark of the cross. We are called to be people who restore, not condemn. When we see sin in others, let us approach with love. When we sin, let us run to mercy.

This week, be gentle with the wounded. Be a place where Jesus is present. For the Church is not a customs house—it is the house of the Father, where everyone is welcome.

Mercy marks us. Mercy heals us. Amen.
